Meet My New Book “Fiesta Fruit” Created with Blurb Books

I've had a love for books for as long as I can remember. I'm quickly mesmerized by their artfully designed covers; always wishing I could create one as well. So imagine my excitement when Blurb Books invited me to create a book of my very own using their professional online book printing services! Blurb's products are great for any artist/ creative looking to showcase their work in a beautifully executed printed piece.
I had fun dreaming up ideas for this project! I knew I wanted to make a fun artbook that someone might want to display on their coffee table. Also, I wanted the finished piece to be colorful and energetic, so I decided the subject of my book would feature my vibrantly hand painted fruit photo series. I even painted and shot two new fruits just to round out the book!

Blurb offers many unique book options; such as large coffee table photo books, glossy magazines, trade books and more. I opted to design a 7" x 7" square hardcover photo book. I chose this size because it's a cutesy fun size that complements the whimsical spirit of the festive fruit photography I would be putting in the book.
The design process was quite enjoyable as Blurb offers various tools to simplify the creation of the design document, so that I could focus on the art and designing! I loved using their robust InDesign Plug-In because it allowed me to have full design freedom over the layout while providing an easy to use template. The InDesign Plug-In also walked me through simple steps for when I priced out the book and was ready submit it for print. Not sure what paper to use? No problem! Blurb can send a swatch kit in advance that includes their paper options, to help make paper selection easier. You can then apply the cost of the swatch kit to your final order.
The finished book arrived just one week after ordering. I gasped when I unboxed it - as it's so professionally constructed! What impressed me most about this product is the high quality. The paper is very smooth, the hardcover cover is solid, but most importantly, the colors are vibrant and showcase my work in the way I had intended! It truly is a work of art!
